Bangalore bandh to protest sexual offences evokes mixed response

Posted By: Bbb - 04:42
A 12-hour bandh in the country's IT hub to protest rising cases of sexual offences against women and children called by Kannada outfits on Thursday evoked a mixed response.

Commercial establishments in several areas remained shut while buses operated by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation plied but with fewer passengers. A section of auto rickshaws stayed off the roads, which were mostly bereft of the usual hustle and bustle of a working day.

Government offices and banks functioned while most educational institutions declared a holiday.

Essential services were normal as they are exempt from the bandh called by "Kannada Okoota (federation)", an umbrella body of several Kannada organisations led by Vatal Nagaraj, which has called the dawn-to-dusk bandh call, also demanding "severest" punishment to the perpetrators of sexual offences.

Some of the shopping malls were closed, as also cinema theatres which cancelled morning shows.

Security has been beefed up with police, bolstered by central forces, mobilising "maximum amount" of force.

No untoward incident has been reported, police said, as they patrolled the city and kept a close vigil in sensitive areas.

The bandh comes after the public outrage over the alleged recent gangrape of a six-year-old girl at Vibgyor High school that spilled into the streets and drew all-round condemnation with the government and police coming in for criticism.

Different Kannada outfits held demonstrations in several parts of the city, shouting slogans and carrying placards demanding that the rapists should be hanged.

A rash of sexual offences, including the rape of a 22-year-old woman in a car while she was with her friend and that of a 15-year-old nun at a seminary in Bangalore had led to public anger and rising concerns over safety of women in the city.

Facing public heat, police issued tough guidelines to schools for safety of children and government has tightened the Goondas Act to bring sexual offenders under its ambit.

OLD WORDS AND THEIR NEW MEANING

Posted By: Mano - 06:57

Iam Fascinated about the ever-shifting relationship between words and their meaning. But it makes me worries when their connotations vastly differ from their actual meanings. One of the contentious in recent times is Secularism. It has acquired a negative implication that even our Constitution could have imagined. Its meaning according to noble dictionary, Originally used in Christian Latin , is "The world",as opposed to the church.I doubt if anything can be more inclusive than the whole wide world!.

In practise, secularism meant the separation of the church and the state. But in India, it was reinvented as to mean, the Equal treatment of all religions, both major and minor, since separation seemed impossible. Fatigued by its interpretation, I have at times wanted to abandon its use.Language is meant only for communication and if the purpose is lost, then might replace the word  with a other one which is not yet destroyed.Although I fear that it is only matter of time that this too will be threatened. But more important I fear a retreat from the word will also be a retreat from idea.

Speaking of secularism, one word which comes to my mind is the most abused word-minority, whose mere existence in this country is at stake.According to Political scientist Andre Liebich, two key elements that Constitute a minority are "Inequality and inferiority, not merely numerical but substanial inferiority". Dr.B.R.Ambedkar astutely observed the irony, "any claim for the sharing the power with minorities is called communalism while monopolising of the whole power by the majority is called nationalism !!".

A word, an idea that has been under siege for longer part of time is feminism.Nanditha Das stated that "I remember during college, most people thought being a feminist as Man-hating whiny modernist.Early on i distanced myself from being called feminist, underplayed its use and later claimed it with full force. When people stare me foe being a feminist i say there would be no reason for feminist had the world not been so skewed. I cannot for that day when one can simply be a humanist. Until then, yes,I am a feminist. So that makes me a secular humanist, fine with me."

Old Words whose meaning has drastically changed with time ...

    Current Meaning :Contrived or False.

2. BRAVE

urrent Meaning :Courageous

3.Nervous

England players spooked on and off field because of the GHOST in their Hotel.

Posted By: Mano - 08:45

England player's say their five-star central hotel is haunted. They gave plenty of excuses to lose sleep through their woeful on-field displays in recent months but paranormal activities in their bedrooms is surely taking things to different level.

Sportsmail have learned that a number of players have requested to move rooms, while some wives and girlfriends have refused to stay at the world renowned Langham hotel during London test matches this Summer after complaints of mysterious goings on at night.

Stuart board shifted his room??

Stuart board when asked about it said that during test match against Srilanka, he felt a weird presence in  his room . It was hot in the room  so i couldn't sleep properly , all of a sudden taps in the bathroom came on for no reason . I was freaked out and switched on the light to check, the taps went off itself . Then when i switched off the light again the tap came on .It was very weird and i was very freaked out so i got up and went online and saw Matt prior on line too. I went to his room to check in . He said he too had the same problem. He was in twin bedroom so i was pushed to share with him because of the paranormal activity.

'Ben stokes has had some problems sleeping as well. He's on the third Floor, where a lot of issues are. I'm telling you, something weird is going on.'

The Langham Hotel- renowned as one of the finest in London- was opened in 1865 by The Prince of Wales and subsequently frequented by the cream of Victorian society including literary Luminaries such as Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde.

It was not the first time, Test cricketers have been spooked, with Australian all-rounder Shane Watson famously having to share a room with his team-mate Bret lee in 2005 as he was soared of ghostly goings on at Lumley Castle Hotel near durham.

TEST MATCH EVENLY POISED AND SET FOR A MOUTHWATERING CONTEST ON 4TH DAY

Posted By: Bbb - 00:12
India set pretty at 169 for 4 at the end of day 3 with the lead of 145 runs. But India is not yet out of the woods now.It is upto this unbeaten pair of the skipper Dhoni and the in form Vijay to stretch the lead as far as possible.Earlier Plunkett's double break put England on top but this pair suvived  the day and a target over 350 will be defendable in this pitch with variable bounce.Earlier Dhawan played a Sehwagian type of innings but failed to capitalise on the start yet again and threw his wicket away by chasing a wide one from Stokes.Pujara also got a start but Virat disappointed his fans yet again. With thunderstorms staying out of the way we are set for a gruelling fourth day at Lord's.

Create your own Android App

Posted By: Mano - 11:11

Build your first Android App

Every platform technology uses different terminology to describe its application components. The three most important classes on Android platform are Context, Activity and Intent. These three are the basic building blocks of any android App.Clearly Specify the goal of your App from onset, its mission and purpose. Its appearance must be unique so that it will carve a place in the app market.

There might be many apps out there doing the same functions as yours where you must stand out from the crowd by using some specific niche. One must knew the technical requirements for developing a App.Developing a App as team is better than a single developer.

Team must include a software designer , an artist for visual Appeal, a marketing and salespeople to deliver it to the common man , so that your app is purchased. These are the technical requirements for developing a App. If one lacks these resources, one can learn the objective-
C or JAVA programming language and write their codes for app and Xcode to develop the app and then do all other duties by you , so that your app gets reached.
The next step is to start  sketching the Layout and structure for the mobile app by conceptualising its key features and laying out the rudimentary groundwork for its interface. With this , one can now start too build the
wire frame for the app which is basically the app's prototype. Next is storyboard which creates a connection between various screens of the app. when thees are ready, one should design skins for each individual screen of the app and this basically entails creating a high resolution of the wire frames prepared earlier. One must define and design the back end of the app by this time by sketching and then setting the Servers, Database, data diagrams, and APIs.

Now that prototype is complete, one must tested it with his trust able environment who gives reliable feedback about its functioning, effectiveness, unfriendliness . This enables one to revise their app and continue to build it further. A second run test will tune your App better and the run test should continue till your viewer is convinced with your app's excellence.

The final step is to release your App to an early adopters market like PreApp to get reviews and feedback of your App and to gauge the general popularity and acceptability of the app among the common People. Should all this be favourable, one get their App on app store or google Playstore. After getting into the real market world and you must update your app as often as required as people's quest for technology is growing .

Google to fix Chrome battery drain issue in Windows laptops

Posted By: Bbb - 04:43

Google's web browser may be close to owning half the market share, but that hasn't stopped the software from feeding off some laptop batteries like a vampire right out of a classic horror movie.

PCWorld reported this week that Google appears to have finally gotten the message from Windows laptop owners tired of Chrome running down their battery, even when the processor is sitting idle.

The problem first came to light on July 14 with a Forbes article shedding light on how Chrome for Windows fails to properly restore PC processors to a more power-efficient mode, even when the browser is resting in the background.

The report blamed Chrome's high "system clock tick rate" of one millisecond, Microsoft claimed this can increase power consumption by as much as 25%, depending upon how the hardware is configured.

Crusty old bugs
Forbes' Ian Morris pointed out that most Windows software - including Microsoft's own Internet Explorer browser - default to a system clock tick rate of 15.625 milliseconds, which causes the PC hardware to wake up less often.

More damning to Google is the fact that this bug was first reported in 2010, but failed to gain any significant bug reports to the Chromium team until November 2012. And yet, it still hasn't been addressed to date.

However, now that the issue has received widespread public attention, Google confirmed to PCWorld that the Chrome team is on the case, having bumped up the bug report to "priority one" internally.

While there's no word on when the fix will actually arrive, Windows laptop owners can get some much-needed relief by simply shutting down Chrome when it's not in use, or use the time to try out an alternative such as Firefox, Opera or even Internet Explorer.

THOR A FEMALE!?

Posted By: Bbb - 06:59
Marvel turned to ABC’s “The View” to introduce the first female to portray Thor in its new comicbook series.
“Thor,” written by Jason Aaron (“Thor: God of Thunder”), with art by Russell Dauterman (“Cyclops”), will be published in October.
“No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge who will be worthy of the name Thor,” Marvel Comics said in making the announcement.See first image below.
“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” said Marvel editor Wil Moss.
“The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute
 – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy.”
